Ellis Rimmer

Ellis James Rimmer was a Birkenhead-born outside-left who played local amateur football before joining Tranmere Rovers as a teenager in 1924. His performances at Prenton Park led to a move to Sheffield Wednesday in February 1928, where he helped the club win consecutive First Division championships in 1928–29 and 1929–30.

Rimmer also played a prominent role in Wednesday’s 1935 FA Cup triumph, scoring in every round and twice in the final against West Bromwich Albion. He represented England four times between 1930 and 1931, scoring twice on his debut against Scotland at Wembley. After a decade at Hillsborough, he finished his professional career with Ipswich Town.
